Cabela's EDI Compliance

Cabela’s was established in Chappell, Nebraska in 1961 and has since grown to 60 stores around the United States. They are a specialty retailer of hunting, angling, camping, shooting, and other related outdoor merchandise.

EDI documents are transmitted over a VAN (Value Added Network). Below are the EDI document types and labels that are required by Cabela’s and which have been fully testing by CovalentWorks for accurate compliance with Cabela’s EDI credentials.

Cabela's EDI Requirements

Cabela’s suppliers use several label types when a purchase order is fulfilled. They include:

  • ETP Shipments (Non Cross Dock)
  • Cross Dock
  • Cross Dock Mixed
  • Cross Dock with no UPC

The ASN (Advance Shipping Notice) will contain comprehensive information about the packing of the products that are being sent to Cabela’s and as well as transportation information. For example, the numeric gross weight, SCAC code, carrier name, date, ship to ID, vendor contact name, and buying party ID will be included in addition to data that comes from the purchase order.

Cabela’s uses the SOPI format for ASN’s. SOPI stands for an arrangement of information by Shipment, Order, Pack (carton) and Item. SOPI is commonly called “Pick and Pack.”  More than one type of item can picked from the supplier’s warehouse and packed into the same carton. Cabela’s uses several variations of SOPI ASN’s. Here are some examples:

  • Collect shipment parcel/small package carrier shipments specific to DC, store warehouse, international orders (load ID required)
  • Collect shipment common carrier shipments specific to DC, store, warehouse, international orders (load ID required)
  • Prepaid shipment parcel/small package carrier shipments specific to DC, store, warehouse, international orders
  • Prepaid common carrier shipments specific to DC, store, warehouse, international orders
