Ford was founded 112 years ago in 1903 and has since become the 2nd largest U.S. based automaker in the United States. The company ranks 5th in size among auto companies worldwide. Ford is an multinational automaker and sells most of its cars under the Ford brand except for their more luxurious cars, in which case they use the Lincoln brand name.

The 856 ASN (Advance Shipping notice) will have extensive information about the items that are being shipped, packing, and how the items are being transported. For example, the date, time, gross weight, net weight, SCAC code, shipping location, equipment initial, equipment number, freight bill number, bill of Lading number, packing list number, number of loads/containers, number of units shipped and bar coded serial number will be included as well as information directly from the purchase order.

Ford uses the SOPI format for ASN’s. SOPI stands for Shipment, Order, Pack (carton) and Item. SOPI is also known as “Pick and Pack” because more than one type of item can be packed into the same carton.  The FORD SOPI requirements are different for US based shipments and international shipments.
