Nordstrom EDI Compliance
Nordstrom is a high-end fashion retailer located in the United States. The company has close to 120 Nordstrom locations and another 180 Nordstrom Rack’s stores. The business has been around since 1901 and has close to 70,000 employees. Nordstrom’s main competitors are Bloomingdales, Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue, and Macy’s.
Nordstrom offers a variety of products such as clothing, shoes, jewelry, beauty products, furnishings and designs, wedding clothes, and more.

The 856 ASN (Advance Shipping Notice) contains detailed information about the products that are being sent to Nordstrom and as well as transportation information. For example, the numeric gross weight in pounds, SCAC code, carrier number, date, and ship to DC will be included in addition to data that comes directly from the purchase order.
Nordstrom uses the SOPI format for ASN’s. SOPI stands for Shipment, Order, Pack (carton) and Item. SOPI is also known as “Pick and Pack” because more than one type of item can be packed into the same carton. Nordstrom uses two types of SOPI ASN’s. The two types are:
- No master Bill of Lading assigned to the shipment
- There is a master Bill of Lading assigned to the shipment
