Owens & Minor EDI Requirements
Owens requires several kinds of labels when suppliers ship orders. Some of these labels types are:
- Standard pallet shipping label
- Pallet label with have item number
The ASN (Advance Shipping Notice) contains detailed information about the products that are being sent to Owens and as well as transportation information. For example, the numeric gross weight, SCAC code, carrier name, Bill of Lading number, carrier reference number, shipped date, and seller’s invoice number will be included in addition to data from the purchase order.
Owens & Minor uses the SOTI format for ASN’s. SOTI stands for Shipment, Order, Tare (pallet) and Item. The information in the ASN is arranged hierarchically according to order SOTI.
The company operates 55 distribution centers where products from 1,600 suppliers are arranged into deliveries for 4,500 customers. Trucks from the suppliers unload on one side of the distribution center and trucks going out to customers dock on the other side. An automated cross docking system with conveyor belts accelerates the movement of product within the distribution center.
