Petsmart EDI Requirements
PetSmart uses a several label types when a purchase order is fulfilled. They include a Standard
- Carton label; packed with same SKU; with Expiration Date
- Pallet label; packed with same SKU; with Expiration Date
- Carton label; packed same SKU; with NO Expiration Date
- Carton label; packed MIXED SKU; with NO Expiration Date
- Pallet label; Mixed SKU; with NO Expiration Date
- Pallet label; same SKU; with NO Expiration Date
- Pallet label; Same SKU; No Exp. Date; manually enter Item Desc.
The ASN (Advance Shipping notice) will have extensive information about the items that are being shipped and how they are being transported. For example, the gross weight, Bill of Lading, and expiration date will be included as well as information directly from the purchase order.
PetSmart uses the SOPI, SOTPI, SOTI and SOI format for ASN’s. SOPI is mainly used for shipments with more than one item type and SOIP is used for shipments that have only one item type.
An SOPI (Shipment, Order, Pack (carton) and Item) ASN is also known as “Pick and Pack” because more than one type of item can be picked from the supplier’s shelves and packed into the same carton.
SOI stands for Shipment, Order, and Item. SOI is also known as “summary ASN” and does not have as much carton detail information as some other ASN structures.
The SOTPI packing structure is like the SOPI packing structure, except that the cartons are loaded onto one or more pallets/slips. The “T” represent the tare pallet level of information.
Lastly, the SOTI packing structure is like the SOPI packing structure, except that the carton information is replaced by pallet information. PetSmart uses several variations of these ASN’s. Here are some examples:
- Loose carton based shipments
- Shrink wrapped pallet based shipments
- Palletized loose carton-based shipments
PetSmart has two types of distribution centers. Forward distribution centers are responsible for quickly getting perishable product into stores. Combination distribution centers deliver both consumable and non-consumable products to stores while efficiently managing transportation costs and store stocking labor. Usually suppliers only ship to one type of distribution center.
